The Author Of My Hero Academia Became The First Foreign Artist To Receive Korean Comic Award

On February 10, 2019 the official Twitter account for My Hero Academia announced that Kōhei Horikoshi – the author of the series was awarded the “2018 Manga Creator Award” by Seoul Media Comics. Kōhei Horikoshi is the first foreign comic artist to receive this award.

Biography

 

Horikoshi released the superhero series on Shonen Jump Weekly in July 2014. Shueisha Publishing has published 22 compilation volumes for this series. My Hero Academia was also adapted into 3 TV anime seasons. The fourth season of the series is currently in production and is expected to air in October this year. In addition, the series also has an anime movie My Hero Academia: Two Heroes. This film has sold 1.5 billion yen in the Japanese market.

Kohei Horikoshi (堀 越 耕 平 Horikoshi Kōhei), born November 20, 1986, is a Japanese mangka known for composing the manga series My Hero Academia.

As a mangaka from Aichi Prefecture, Horikoshi graduated from Nagoya University of Arts. Previously he was an assistant to Yasuki Tanaka, author of Hitomi no Catoblepas and Kagijin. Horikoshi’s favorite manga include Naruto, One Piece, Akira, Tekkonkinkreet and Boys on the Run. In it, he said that Naruto is the best shonen manga, with the series being an important part of his childhood as well as one of the main inspirations for My Hero Academia. Masashi Kishimoto, Naruto’s author, on the occasion of the My Hero Academia anime premiering, congratulated Horikoshi on Weekly Shonen Jump.

On May 29, 2018, Horikosho was announced to be attending San Diego Comic-Con. This was his first trip to America as well as his first trip abroad to Japan. In November 2014, Horikoshi asked his followers on Twitter to come up with an idea for new Kosei and send it to him. He then said that he could turn that Kosei into a hero and announce it at Jump Fiesta 2015. In the first favorite character poll, Horikoshi ranked 17th.
